OUR HOSTEL WAS ONCE A HOUSE OF THE LORD

Good Morning to you from Kirby Stephen. A lovely little market town nearing the Yorkshire border.  Yesterday's walk took Dale and I in different directions once we reached the little village of Orton. Orton might have 75 inhabitants but that doesn't stop them from playing the local parish bells at noon.  As I walked into the village from on high I was honestly entertained as the bell ringers practiced for an hour.  The local shop/post office is the hub of activity followed closely by the pub and to my surprise around a narrow lane was a going concern chocolate factory. Very small but beautiful never the less.

As Dale went east I continued on via another local option  and we met later in Kirby Stephen at our hostel (once church).  Kirby Stephen is a market town with all the amenities one could want or need.  It is clearly geared to walkers and farmers.  The local Catholic Abbey was stunning and I spent an hour wandering around it and it's grounds.

When Dale and I reconnected we went to the King's Arms for a pint. After one came a second and then plans to eat at the Mango Tree across the street. The Mango Tree is Kirby Stephen's only Indian restaurant but it was tremendous.   Very tasty and we tried a little bit of everything.  Some lamb, some chicken, some naan and the appropriate amount of spice.

Our waiter must have attended the best finishing school in Switzerland as his manners were impeccable.  His assistants were also well schooled however less verbal.

I like it here too.  I like it very much. Today we move on to Keld and what is advertised as the Keld "luxury barn and yurts".  Ah, the luxury!
